Man Injured, Dog Killed in Crash With Tree

CarTree

Car accidents involving trees are more common than many people realize. A driver can go off the road for various reasons, and in many cases, they hit large objects such as trees. A crash with a tree can cause serious injuries or even death.

This was recently the case in Florida. A man crashed into a tree in a gated neighborhood, injuring himself and killing his dog. The fatal accident occurred on November 26 in Bradenton.

The crash happened in the neighborhood of Tidewater Preserve, near Highway 64 and 48th Street Court East. The driver collided with the front gate of the neighborhood before crashing into a tree.

The driver, a 43-year-old man, was knocked unconscious. He was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. His current condition has not been released. There was a dog inside the vehicle, but it was killed in the crash.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by Bradenton Police.

Car Crashes Involving Trees: What to Know

Car accidents involving trees are often catastrophic. Because a tree is a fixed, solid object that does not absorb impact, the force of the collision is transferred directly back into the vehicle and its occupants. Understanding why these accidents happen and what legal or insurance issues follow can help victims protect their rights.

Common causes of tree-related crashes include:

  • Loss of control. Wet roads, sharp curves, gravel, or sudden maneuvers can cause a driver to lose control and veer off the roadway.
  • Excessive speed reduces reaction time and increases the force of impact, making tree collisions deadlier.
  • Impaired or distracted driving. Alcohol, drugs, texting, and other distractions significantly increase the risk of running off the road.
  • Drowsy drivers may drift out of their lane, especially on rural or dimly lit roads.
  • Poor road design or maintenance. Missing guardrails, lack of shoulder space, or trees placed too close to the road can contribute to serious accidents.

There are some insurance considerations to keep in mind when a vehicle hits a tree:

  • Collision coverage typically pays for damage to the vehicle.
  • Comprehensive coverage is not usually involved unless a tree fell on the vehicle.
  • In injury cases, victims may seek compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Common injuries include traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage, chest trauma, internal bleeding, and broken bones.
  • If a government entity is responsible, notice deadlines for claims may be very short. It is important to contact a lawyer to learn about your legal rights and applicable deadlines.
