Florida Dog Attack Injures 3 People

DogToAttack

When dogs escape, they can wreak a lot of havoc. Some may even attack people, causing serious injuries. This recently happened in Florida. A dog escaped in Riviera Beach, attacking three people.

The 1-year-old dog, named Enzo, escaped from his owner’s garage and ran up the street. It then proceeded to attack three people. The attack occurred on the afternoon of December 23 and was caught on a neighbor’s security video.

One of the victims yelled and told anyone nearby to call 911. A neighbor did just that, reporting the dog attack to the operator. The caller told the operator that they were staying inside their home because they were worried they would be attacked as well.

Another neighbor encountered the dog as he was leaving to pick up his children. He said the dog seemed aggressive and just minutes later, the dog attacked the victims.

By the time officers arrived, the dog had returned inside his home. Animal Care and Control took custody of the dog. The dog’s owner described his dog as “sweet and playful” and does not know what happened or what caused Enzo to attack.

The victims were all together and were glad they were able to protect each other. They fear that had it been a child or just one person, it could have been much worse. They said the dog was aggressive and had a lot of power.

Enzo’s owner hopes to have him returned home. However, Animal Care and Control will make the final decision.

Why Do Dogs Attack?

Dogs attack for a variety of reasons, and it is usually not “aggression for no reason.” Common causes include:

  • Fear or self-defense. A frightened dog may bite if it feels cornered, threatened, or startled, especially if it cannot escape.
  • Protective instincts. Dogs may attack to guard their territory, food, toys, or family members.
  • Pain or illness. Injured or sick dogs can lash out because they are uncomfortable or scared.
  • Lack of socialization. Dogs that are not properly exposed to people, children, or other animals may react aggressively out of uncertainty.
  • Past abuse. Negative experiences can make dogs more reactive or defensive.
  • Poor training or supervision. Without clear boundaries, dogs may respond inappropriately to stress or excitement.

Dogs usually show clear warning signs before attacking, such as:

  • Body stiffness. A tense, rigid posture often means the dog is uncomfortable or on high alert.
  • Growling or snarling. These are clear vocal warnings that a dog feels threatened.
  • Showing teeth. Lip lifting or baring teeth signals a warning to back away.
  • Ears pinned back or sharply forward. Flattened ears can indicate fear, while ears pointed stiffly forward can signal aggression.
  • Raised hackles. Hair standing up along the back or neck suggests heightened arousal.
  • Tail signals. A stiff, high tail or a tucked tail can both indicate distress or aggression.
