Woman Killed in Solo-Vehicle Crash in Bradenton

CarDamage

Car accidents can be caused by many factors. Fatigue and loss of control can lead to fatal crashes.

Sadly, a woman was killed in a crash after she failed to negotiate a curve. The fatal accident occurred in Bradenton in the early morning hours of September 28.

The 25-year-old woman from Bradenton was traveling along Cortez Road West, near 44th Avenue East, when she attempted to go around a curve. She lost control and her car traveled across a grass shoulder before colliding with a light pole and utility pole.

Emergency responders arrived but the woman died at the accident scene. The crash is still under investigation.

Crashes Caused by Loss of Control

Crashes caused by loss of control are some of the most dangerous accidents on the road. Here is a look at the main factors involved:

  1. Excessive speed. Driving too fast makes it harder to steer or stop in time. At high speeds, small steering errors can quickly escalate into spinouts or rollovers.
  2. Slippery conditions. Rain, ice, snow, or oil on the road can reduce traction, leading to hydroplaning or skidding, especially if drivers brake suddenly or oversteer.
  3. Sharp turns. Entering a curve too quickly or failing to adjust speed can cause vehicles to veer off the road or roll over.
  4. Driver behavior. Aggressive maneuvers such as rapid lane changes, overcorrection, or distracted driving increase the likelihood of losing control.
  5. Vehicle type. Sports cars, motorcycles, and SUVs each carry unique risks. For example, sports cars may fishtail at high speeds, while SUVs are more prone to rollovers.
  6. Tire and mechanical failures. Blowouts, worn tires, or brake issues can suddenly destabilize a vehicle, making it nearly impossible to regain control.

Loss of control accidents often lead to collisions with multiple vehicles, rollovers, or hitting fixed objects like poles, guardrails and trees, which makes them especially deadly. In accidents caused by loss of control, determining fault is often complex because investigators must figure out whether the driver’s actions, road conditions, or another party contributed. They will look at these factors:

  1. Driver behavior. If evidence shows speeding, distracted driving, impairment, or reckless maneuvers, the driver who lost control is typically found at fault.
  2. Road conditions. If poor road maintenance (such as potholes, ice, or debris) contributed to the crash, a municipality or third party could share liability.
  3. Vehicle defects. Mechanical issues like brake failure or defective tires may shift responsibility to manufacturers, mechanics, or parts suppliers under product liability laws.
  4. Evidence. Skid marks, crash reconstruction, dashcam footage, and event data recorders can help determine what happened before the crash.
